ABC Stitch Along Quilt

If you're following along with the ABC Stitch Along and want to make a quilt with Alyssa, this page will help you with measurements and ideas to make your own creative ABC quilt! We'll give basic instructions for the layout and Quilt-As-You-Go fabric measurements. We are not offering a quilt pattern at this time. Use these instructions, along with the coloring sheet below, to make this quilt your own unique masterpiece!

What is Quilt As You Go? 

We will be putting the ABC Quilt together using the Quilt As You Go (QAYG) method. In this method, blocks are quilted individually, as you go, rather than as a whole blanket at the end. These quilted blocks are then combined by sewing a sashing strip and a binding strip in between each one. We give measurements for these sashing strips below. 

This method allows for fun experimentation, and practice, with free motion quilting (FMQ). If you're not comfortable with free motion quilting, no problem! You can still quilt each block individually using straight lines. Do whatever works best for you.

Quilt Measurements 

Here are the measurements that Alyssa is using for her ABC Stitch Along Quilt using the quilt-as-you-go method. We have not made this specific quilt in this way before, so we all get to watch it come to life together! This is a great opportunity to mix colors, use up some stash fabrics, and do something fun and unique.

Finished Quilt: 

42 1/2" x 48 1/2"   -   Perfect for a baby quilt!

Cutting the frabic (measurements)

If you're doing the QAYG technique, you can cut all of your pieces in one sitting and have them "on deck" for when you're ready to quilt a block. It's also helpful to have the sashing strips cut ahead of time for when you are ready to sew the blocks together. 

Quilt Blocks:

30 Blocks (26 ABC blocks and 4 corner blocks): 10" x 10"
30 Back fabric pieces: 10" x 10"
30 Batting pieces: 10" x 10"

**Trim blocks to 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" after quilting the 10" x 10" block, batting piece, and back fabric together.

Sashing and Binding:

24 Sashing strips: 8 1/2" x 1"
5 Sashing strips: 42 1/2" x 1"
24 Binding strips: 8 1/2" x 1"
5 Binding strips: 42 1/2" x 1"

Quilt binding: 200" x 2 1/4"
